The Grain Problem
Half a million tonnes of brewery-spent grain are produced every year across Canada. Every 100L of beer produced generates about 20kg of brewery spent grain, accounting for roughly 85% of the total waste in the industry.
The Soil Problem
At the same time, a serious concern lies in the health impacts of conventional soil amendments. Many rely heavily on synthetic chemicals to restore the soil’s natural balance. These inputs harm soil structure and ecosystem resilience, releasing harmful greenhouse gasses back into the atmosphere.
Where Hops to Sprout Comes In
Hops to Sprout is an initiative founded on the mission and innovative transformation of brewery spent grain (BSG) into high-quality, natural soil amendments. By repurposing this abundant byproduct of brewing waste, we aim to reduce industrial waste while creating sustainable solutions for the agriculture and gardening communities. Hops to Sprout’s organic soil results in a premium loose soil blend designed to dramatically improve moisture retention, soil rehabilitation, and plant growth.
